An aerobic membrane bioreactor (aMBR) combines an activated sludge process and membrane filtration.
During the activated sludge process, organic matter is converted into CO2 and nitrogen is removed as N2 to the air. In the filtration step, solid materials are separated from the effluent.
aMBRs are compact systems and suitable for the treatment of low concentrated wastewaters such as grey water (from e.g. shower, washbasin).
The clean effluent has a high reuse potential because the membrane filtration process removes all solids, including pathogens.
In Run4Life, the aMBR is used in demosite Vigo and demosite Ghent.
